- A start is validated over a continuous window of speed and distance, not one GPS spike
- With Motion & Fitness access, walking is actively filtered out — a walk across the lot isn't filed as a drive
- Start points are backdated and end times trimmed to where you actually parked, so the log matches the drive
- Auto-stop is visible and cancelable: a countdown with a Cancel button, never a silent end
- A Live Activity on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island shows live distance and a running timer

How do I track mileage for taxes?
The IRS lets you deduct qualifying miles at a standard rate it sets for each year — but the deduction has to survive on your records: the date, the distance, and the business purpose of each drive. Smart Mileage Tracker captures the date, route, distance, and addresses automatically for every drive, gives Business Purpose its own field, and exports it all as a CSV or PDF your accountant can use.
Does automatic mileage tracking drain my battery?
Smart Mileage uses your location in the background so drives can be detected automatically, and background GPS does use some battery. Sampling adapts to your speed to keep the cost low, and you can restrict automatic tracking to when your iPhone is plugged in — useful if your car charges your phone anyway.
Is Smart Mileage Tracker really free?
Yes — free on the App Store, with no account to create and no subscription. Tracking is unlimited: there is no cap on trips. If paid extras ever arrive, they will be a one-time purchase — never a subscription.
Which drives are tax deductible?
More than business alone: the IRS publishes standard mileage rates for business, medical, and charitable driving, and Smart Mileage prices all three — each at the rate for the year the trip happened. Regular commuting generally is not deductible.
